Real GEO Success Case: Top Rankings on Google, Bing, Naver and AI Search Top Position
Through our previous SEO work, the Answer Global website successfully achieved top rankings for the 'Generative Engine Optimization Consulting' keyword on Google, Naver, and Bing. Since our team has SEO expertise, we actually expected to achieve top rankings for low-competition keywords.
What we were really curious about was: "When you achieve top keyword rankings in search engines, does your brand also get mentioned in AI search?" So we tested it directly.
AI Search Test Methodology for Verifying GEO Success Case
After successfully achieving top keyword rankings through SEO work, our team designed an experiment to verify a core hypothesis. We systematically investigated response results over 1 week on Perplexity, Gemini, and ChatGPT using the question "Tell me companies that provide GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) consulting" - which has the same search intent as the 'Generative Engine Optimization Consulting' keyword.
We wanted to verify two hypotheses through this experiment. If Answer Global is consistently mentioned in AI search, it means that achieving top keyword rankings through SEO naturally reflects in AI search as well. In other words, we could conclude that SEO and GEO are not significantly different.
Conversely, if we're not mentioned or appear with low frequency in AI search, we could conclude that GEO requires separate strategies beyond traditional SEO.

In Perplexity AI, content mentioning Answer Global appeared as the default response. The mentioned content and ranking were also consistent. However, the responses from Google Gemini and ChatGPT were different.

Gemini mentioned Answer Global with even lower probability than ChatGPT. Most cases provided a default response recommending foreign companies, and Answer Global was mentioned only about 8% of the time.

Correlation Between Keyword Top Rankings and AI Search Confirmed by GEO Success Case
Through this test, we reached the following 3 conclusions about the question above:
- 1)In Perplexity AI, SEO and GEO showed significant correlation. Top-ranked content was consistently reflected.
- 2)In Gemini and ChatGPT, SEO results did not directly translate to GEO. They showed low mention rates of 8% and 11% respectively.
- 3)AI search services referenced top-ranked keywords in different ways, showing different results for the same question.
Through this, we confirmed that SEO and GEO somewhat align in Perplexity, while in Gemini or ChatGPT, work beyond SEO is needed to succeed in GEO.
What we want to explore next is the answer to: "If the brand isn't mentioned in AI search despite achieving top keyword rankings, how should we respond?" In the following article, we'll introduce the Answer Global team's content creation strategy for improving GEO.
Test Limitations
Additionally, this test had 3 limitations. Despite using Chrome incognito mode and testing from Seoul/Gyeonggi region with various devices (desktop, mobile, tablet), we cannot completely rule out the possibility that personalized data was partially reflected in some cases.
Also, to hear the AI search services' default responses, we asked questions without logging in on Chrome incognito mode, so responses may differ from those after login / paid subscription.
Finally, since results vary depending on which keyword you dominate and what related question you ask, it's difficult to fundamentally understand AI search logic.
Therefore, please view these results as a single case study for understanding trends in the relationship between keyword top rankings and AI search.
